As the saying goes: “When One Door Closes, A Window Opens.” As seen in this week’s Lynnfield police log:

Wednesday, 4:33pm: Report of an open window in the house across the street from 1 Hunting Lane. Officer shut the window and all is secure. (Disaster averted)

Wednesday, 8:46pm: Resident at 20 Fletcher Road wants police to check his home because he found an open door inside the garage. Officer reports all is ok.

Tuesday: An alarm sounded just after midnight at Huckleberry Hill School on Knoll Road. Police found a door open and were unable to close it. They left a message for the school custodian.

Sunday, 3:15pm: An alarm sounding at a Chestnut Street home may have been set off by motion from a dog inside.

Parking woes:

News from our neighbors to the North:

And from Europe:

What’s scarier than a 2.5 mile rail trail, and other highlights from the Lynnfield Police log (you seriously can’t make this stuff up):

Monday, 5:20pm: Front door burglar alarm accidentally tripped by homeowner on Yorkshire Drive. Officer confirmed it was an accident.

Tuesday, 9:31pm: Caller reported that a man came to his door on Lowell St. and asked if he wanted his driveway plowed, but his red pickup truck did not have a plow. Officer checked the area but was unable to locate the vehicle.

Friday, 5:25pm: Someone in the 500 block of Main Street reported that a man called and made “unusual statements.”

Monday, 6:05pm: Someone visiting a relative on Westover Drive moved a vehicle after it was in the middle of the street.

Annnd the kicker- comments from Citizens of Lynnfield Against the Rail Trail (a 2.5m trail to be built at no cost to our humble hamlet): “Lynnfield has a strong education system with many recreational options for our students, and a trail would not constitute the backbone of our town. But it would be a pain in the neck to everyone. We would be building a tourist trap with the causeway through Reedy Meadow, along with a paved path that would disrupt our neighborhoods.” (Worth pointing out that with more than 77 miles of trails covering over 400 miles throughout MA, I am confused about these so called tourists who would be flocking to a small town for a 2.5m path….)

That’s all, folks!

Youths!

Wednesday, 11:45am: Police were unable to locate a group of youths running through a Homestead Road backyard.

Sunday, 8:10pm: Police found no problem with a small group of youths who had gathered in the 500 block of Summer Street (The kids are all right).

And this final one (which is just bizarre):

Tuesday, 4:30pm: A homeowner discovered a broken sliding door and told police that two small jewelry boxes were missing  with a value set at $500. A small box containing a pet cat’s remains was also gone.

It’s been a while but this week’s police log was too good not to share…
